Cosmetic Dentistry using Dental Veneers
Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of ceramic porcelain which are bonded to fit over the front teeth after a small amount of tooth preparation in order to straighten, reshape and lengthen the teeth, as well as covering imperfections and discolouration, to deliver a 'perfect smile'. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when orthodontics (braces) are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.
Porcelain veneers have to be made in a dental laboratory and then fitted and cemented on to the tooth at a second visit. The advantage of porcelain is that it is very highly glazed, doesn't stain and is hard wearing. An alternative composite veneer can be made in the laboratory or directly in the mouth - a one visit technique.
Veneers are the most common of the incredible transformations we see today.
