White fillings - Wimbledon and Merton Cosmetic Dentistry

Your unsightly silver fillings can easily be replaced with the latest generation of tooth coloured composite fillings for a whiter brighter smile. In addition to conventional drills and our laser system, we have the "Aquacut Quattro" which is a revolutionary fluid abrasion cutting system even faster than the drill.

Fluid Abrasion is a whole new concept of cutting cavities, it uses 53 micron aluminium oxide particles under air pressure to cut tooth structure as well as selectively removing old white filling materials without increasing the size of the cavity thereby preserving more healthy tooth structure. As there is no drilling involved, most of the time there is no injection necessary. An added benefit is the cut surface left behind is especially good for the bonding of white filling materials that we use.

Ideal for children with early decay as it involves the minimal loss of tooth tissue, they don't need to have local anaesthetic or have any drilling, vibration, heat or cold water to worry about.

The "Quattro" also has a separate function when used with different particles such as sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) or the revolutionary "Bioglass" that both remove dietary stains as well as help to re-mineralise and de-sensitise acid eroded teeth. Patients report an immediate effect with this treatment.

Root canal therapy

Root canal treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth is infected through decay or injury. This may eventually lead to an abscess. If root canal treatment (RCT) is not carried out, the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be taken out.

The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure. Most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits. At the first appointment, the infected pulp is removed. Any abscesses, which may be present, can also be drained at this time. The root canal is then cleaned and shaped ready for the filling. A temporary filling is put in and the tooth is left to settle. The tooth is checked at a later visit and when all the infection has cleared, the tooth is permanently filled.

Root treated teeth tend to be brittle and more liable to fracture and it is recommended that they are protected with a crown after treatment.
